CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF HONEYDEW HONEY THAT PRODUCED AT BLACKSEA REGION

Viewed : 2118 - Downloaded : 1496 In this study, the chemical properties of some honeydew honey from eastern black sea region were studied and honey of Ricania simulans, whom popularion has an excessive increase in recent years, was analyzed. Also, Ricania simulans, which are invasive species, cause an massive damage on the vegetation of eastern black sea region and these insects affect tea leave, corn, grape leave, hazelnut and lime tree negatively. They lead to secretion on the surface of the mentioned plants. It was reported that there is a considerable increase in the amount of honeydew honey in eastern black sea region between August and September. This is due to R. simulans and also atmospheric pressure gradient. This honey is quite viscous, dark-colored, blurry and brackish. These features of the honey attract apiarists` interest. In this study, the chemical properties of the honey mentioned above were studied and it was found that honeydew honey has plenty of mineral, phenolic components and antioxidant capacity.
